A handsome pair of French Louis XV brass candlesticks dating to the third quarter of the 18th century.
Each features a turned candle socket above a tall, tapered and molded standard, raised on a substantial domed base with shaped and stepped perimeter. The architectural profiles and restrained ornament are characteristic of French brass lighting of the Louis XV period.
The pair retains a wonderfully warm, naturally aged surface developed over more than two centuries. One candlestick is fitted with a mismatched bobeche, adding to the collected character of the pair.
