About Heritage Haven

Meet Your Appraiser

Heritage Haven Appraisals & Antiques was founded on a deep appreciation for the history, craftsmanship, and significance of objects from the past.

I'm Madeline, a Louisiana-based personal property appraiser and antiques dealer with approximately six years of professional appraisal experience. My career began in general personal property appraisal, where I spent three years evaluating a broad range of antiques, collectibles, and decorative objects. Over the past three years, my practice has become increasingly specialized in fine art and antique furniture.

My experience encompasses American and European antiques across numerous categories, including paintings, works on paper, furniture, pottery, porcelain, glassware, sculpture, decorative arts, and historical objects. This broad foundation allows me to approach each piece with an understanding of its individual characteristics and its place within the wider antiques and fine art market.

Professional Education & Affiliations

Professional Education & Affiliations

My formal studies in antique appraisal began in 2020 through the Ashford Institute of Antiques, where I completed coursework in antique identification and appraisal.

I have been a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) since 2024 and have pursued continuing professional education through the organization, including specialized coursework in fine art, furniture, and arms and armor.

My professional development also includes coursework in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the nationally recognized standards governing ethical and professional appraisal practice.

Ongoing education remains an important part of my work, particularly as scholarship, attribution research, and the markets for fine art and antiques continue to evolve.

My Approach to Appraisal & Research

I believe a well-researched appraisal begins with understanding the object itself.

My approach considers materials, construction techniques, stylistic characteristics, condition, signatures and maker's marks, documented provenance, and relevant historical context. Where appropriate, this research is supported by examination of comparable works, auction records, and current market evidence.

Having worked extensively across both general antiques and specialized fine art categories, I recognize that not every object presents a straightforward identification or attribution. My goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based findings while clearly distinguishing established facts from informed opinions and areas requiring further investigation.

Whether a client is seeking insight into a family heirloom, researching an inherited collection, preparing an object for resale, or requesting valuation documentation, each assignment is approached with careful attention to the object and the intended purpose of the appraisal.

The Story Behind Heritage Haven

Heritage Haven grew naturally from my professional work in appraisal and my personal passion for collecting.

I have always been drawn to objects with history, craftsmanship, character, and stories worth preserving. From centuries-old paintings and finely crafted European furniture to unusual decorative objects and overlooked American antiques, I believe the most compelling interiors are collected over time rather than confined to a single period or style.

My background in appraisal informs how I source and select inventory for Heritage Haven. Each piece is chosen with consideration for its quality, character, and potential to bring something distinctive to a home or collection.

Based in Louisiana, Heritage Haven brings together my two professional interests: researching and valuing objects from the past, and helping others discover and appreciate them.
