Frequently Asked Questions

Which appraisal service is right for me?

Heritage Haven offers three services designed to accommodate different research and valuation needs.

Professional Evaluation: Ideal for individuals seeking to learn more about an antique or artwork, including its possible age, origin, maker, historical context, and estimated market value. Due to the individualized research involved, Professional Evaluations are offered in limited quantities, with a small number of booking opportunities released each month.

Resale Appraisal: Intended for clients seeking a more formal written valuation of an object for resale purposes, including market research and supporting documentation.

Insurance Appraisal: Designed for clients requiring a detailed written valuation report for insurance-related purposes.

If you're uncertain which service best suits your needs, please contact Heritage Haven before booking for assistance.

What is the difference between a Professional Evaluation and a formal appraisal?

A Professional Evaluation is intended for individuals seeking a better understanding of an object's identification, history, characteristics, and estimated market value.

A formal appraisal provides a more structured written valuation prepared for a specific purpose, such as resale or insurance documentation.

The appropriate service depends on how you intend to use the information and the level of documentation required.

Do I need a Resale Appraisal if I'm planning to sell an item?

Not necessarily. If you're primarily interested in learning more about an object and understanding its approximate market value, a Professional Evaluation may be sufficient.

If you require a formal written valuation for resale planning, documentation, or discussions with prospective buyers, a Resale Appraisal may be more appropriate.

Please note that an appraisal represents an informed opinion of value and does not guarantee a particular selling price.

Can you identify or attribute an artwork to a particular artist or maker?

Artist and maker identification may be included in our research when sufficient evidence is available.

We examine relevant characteristics such as signatures, materials, stylistic features, construction, provenance, and comparable documented works.

Depending on the available evidence, findings may include an identification, a qualified attribution, or an association with a particular artistic school, period, or style.

Not every object can be attributed conclusively, and findings are presented according to the strength of the available evidence.

What information and photographs do I need to provide?

Clients are asked to provide clear photographs of their object, including overall views, close-up details, signatures or maker's marks, and any visible condition issues.

We also request approximate dimensions, known history or provenance, and any supporting documentation that may be available.

Additional photographs or information may be requested when necessary to complete the assessment.

How does the online evaluation and appraisal process work?

After purchasing your selected service, you will receive instructions for submitting photographs and relevant information about your object.

Once the required materials have been received, your item will be reviewed and researched according to the scope of the service purchased.

Your completed evaluation or appraisal report will then be delivered electronically.

How long does the process take?

Turnaround times vary depending on the service selected, the complexity of the object, and the research required.

Estimated completion times are provided with the individual service details. Objects requiring additional research or documentation may take longer.

The assessment process begins once all necessary photographs and information have been received.

What types of antiques and artwork do you evaluate?

Heritage Haven provides research and valuation services for a variety of antiques, fine art, and decorative objects, including paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, furniture, and other collectible or historically significant items.

Each object is considered individually. Certain specialized categories may require consultation with an appropriate specialist.

If you're unsure whether your item falls within the scope of our services, please contact us before booking.

Can I submit more than one item?

Our standard evaluation and appraisal services are generally priced per individual item.

For multiple objects, collections, or sets of related items, please contact Heritage Haven before booking to determine the appropriate scope of work and service requirements.
