Beautiful antique mahogany jewelry or keepsake box featuring traditional dovetail construction, brass hardware and a wonderfully preserved deep crimson-purple velvet interior.
The hinged upper compartment opens to reveal a fitted velvet-lined interior divided into three sections. Below is a separate pull-out drawer, also completely lined in matching plush velvet, providing a second level of storage.
The dark reddish-brown wood has developed a beautiful aged surface and patina, while the corners display prominent dovetail joinery. Brass-tone hardware includes an ornate front latch and small drawer pull.
Measures approximately 10 inches wide × 6½ inches deep × 3¾ inches high.
The construction and materials appear consistent with a 19th-century Victorian jewelry or keepsake box, although no maker has been identified.
