Beautiful vintage heart-shaped mother-of-pearl shell box or locket, constructed from two shaped pieces of naturally iridescent shell mounted within an aged metal frame.
The mother-of-pearl displays wonderful natural creamy white, pink and rainbow iridescence with visible shell growth patterns. A hinged metal fitting runs along the center edge, with a small suspension loop at the top allowing the piece to be displayed or worn as a pendant.
Measures approximately 2½ inches wide × 2 inches high.
The metal fittings have developed considerable dark patina, oxidation and surface wear, while the shell shows natural variations, scratches and age-related wear. Please review photographs closely for exact condition.
