Unusual antique double-sided portrait hand mirror featuring a reproduction after Jean-Marc Nattier’s celebrated 1748 portrait of Madame Victoire of France, daughter of King Louis XV and Marie Leszczyńska.

The rectangular wood frame holds the portrait beneath glass with a gold-toned textile mat, while the reverse contains the original-style mirror glass. An elaborate cast-metal handle is decorated with raised floral and foliate ornament and openwork detailing.

The mirror shows substantial age-related character, including scattered spotting and areas of silver loss/desilvering. The wood frame has rubbing, finish loss and other wear consistent with age, while the metal handle retains an attractive aged patina.

The exact maker has not been identified. Based on its construction and materials, the piece appears consistent with a late 19th to early 20th-century decorative vanity mirror, although an exact date has not been established.

Measures approximately 15 inches long overall. The framed mirror/portrait portion measures approximately 7¾ × 5¾ inches.

The portrait is a printed reproduction after Nattier rather than an original painting. The original 1748 portrait depicts Victoire Louise Marie Thérèse of France (1733–1799), known as Madame Victoire, one of the daughters of Louis XV.

Wonderful antique vanity accessory combining French royal portraiture, an ornate hand mirror and beautifully aged materials. Excellent for a vanity collection, French or château-inspired interior, gallery wall or collected antique display.
