A wonderfully ornate French mantel clock dating to around the turn of the 20th century. The architectural gilt metal case is inset with hand-painted porcelain panels depicting romantic pastoral scenes, with coordinating porcelain columns and a decorative urn finial above.
The porcelain dial features an exposed escapement and black Arabic numerals, while the case is finished with scrolling foliate ornament, flame finials and cabriole-form feet. The combination of painted porcelain and elaborate metalwork gives the clock the lavish appearance associated with late 19th-century French decorative arts.
The mechanical movement, pendulum and bell are present. The clock has not been tested and is being offered as found.
