Antique 1899 edition of Louisa of Prussia and Her Times: An Historical Novel by German historical novelist L. Mühlbach (Luise Mühlbach), translated from the German by F. Jordan and published in New York by D. Appleton and Company.
This historical novel centers on Queen Louise of Prussia and the Napoleonic era, and forms part of Mühlbach’s extensive series of historical romances. The work itself was originally published in English decades earlier, making this 1899 volume a later 19th-century edition rather than a first edition.
Handsomely bound in three-quarter burgundy leather with marbled paper boards. The spine features gilt lettering and elaborate military decoration, including Prussian eagle motifs and crossed arms, giving the volume particularly attractive shelf appeal.
Measures approximately 7.75 × 5.25 inches.
Antique condition with substantial age-related exterior wear. The marbled paper on the front board has a large rectangular area of surface loss, likely from removal of a former label or bookplate, along with rubbing, scuffing and losses around the board edges. The leather spine and corners show rubbing and wear, particularly at the head and joints. Interior pages exhibit expected age toning and scattered spotting. Please review photographs closely for condition.
