The original caption identifies the scene as “At the Reader’s Place in the Synagogue.” The image depicts Christ at the reader’s place with the congregation gathered inside the synagogue.
This illustration originates from The Beautiful Story: A Companion Book to the Holy Bible by J. W. Buel, published in 1888. The extensively illustrated volume contained approximately 250 engravings after works by prominent 19th-century biblical artists and illustrators.
Measures approximately 10 1/2 inches tall × 8 inches wide overall.
This is an original antique printed sheet from the 1888 publication, not a modern reproduction. Currently protected in a clear sleeve. Antique condition with expected toning and age-related wear as photographed.
