An authentic mid-19th-century stipple and line engraving titled Youth, engraved by Robert Artlett after the romantic painter Edward Francis Stephanoff. Published by J. Hogarth, 5 Haymarket, London, a respected Victorian print seller known for issuing fine steel and copperplate engravings during the 1830–1850 period.
This engraving shows the hallmark irregular, hand-cut stipple work: clusters of dots that vary in size and density, combined with directional engraved lines—clear indicators of a true steel-plate engraving rather than a lithograph or later mechanical print. The plate impression is faint, as expected in many Hogarth prints, but the detail remains crisp throughout, particularly in the drapery, foliage, and facial modeling.
Paper shows natural age toning and foxing consistent with a genuine 19th-century impression. Presented in a later 16x20 frame with a double mat. A classic Victorian sentimental subject and a strong example of British engraving from the era.
