Historical significance:
Crébillon père was one of France’s major tragedians of the early 18th century, often compared (sometimes unfavorably) with Racine and Corneille. This 1772 edition was published ten years after his death and represents the continuing appreciation of his tragedies. His son, Crébillon fils, was also a famous (and scandalous) novelist, making the family notable in French literary history.
Condition & Value notes:
- Binding: heavily worn, cracking to hinges, leather losses (common for books of this age).
- Interior: generally clean, light foxing, some browning but pages intact.
- Provenance: library stamp may affect desirability for private collectors but can enhance provenance interest.
