This antique gilt wood frame dates to the late 19th century and features richly molded Rococo revival ornamentation, including scrolling foliate corners and centered cartouches along each rail. The gilded surface retains a warm, aged patina with honest wear that speaks to its age and use.
The reverse retains its original retailer’s label for GAFIT Ltd., 15–16 Market Street, London W.1, and Paris, a European framing firm active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Labels of this type are increasingly uncommon and add both provenance and decorative appeal.
The frame is traditionally constructed with mitered wooden corners and remains structurally sound. The opening measures 24.25 by 20 inches, making it a highly usable size for period oils, prints, or modern works needing substantial antique framing.
