This is Volume IV from the five-volume 1803 London edition of The Works of the Right Honorable Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, published for Richard Phillips, St. Paul’s Church-yard. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689–1762) is celebrated for her correspondence, poetry, and essays, most notably her Turkish Embassy Letters describing her travels and observations of Ottoman society. She is also credited with introducing smallpox inoculation to Britain after observing the practice in Turkey.
This particular volume contains her letters written abroad between 1746 and 1756, offering a fascinating window into 18th-century aristocratic and diplomatic life.
Bound in full leather with gilt spine decoration and volume designation. The spine shows rubbing, wear, and losses typical of its age, with boards showing scuffing and surface wear. Interior pages exhibit foxing and toning but remain legible and stable. An authentic piece of early 19th-century literary history suitable for collectors of women’s writing, travel literature, or fine antiquarian bindings.
