A genuine early 19th-century volume from The Works of the Right Honourable Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, printed in 1803 in London for Richard Phillips. This book (Volume III of the five-volume set) includes selections from Montagu’s correspondence, poems, and essays. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689–1762) is celebrated for her witty letters, travel writing, and for introducing smallpox inoculation to Western medicine after her travels in the Ottoman Empire.
Bound in full leather with gilt spine decoration and title. Shows age-related wear with scuffing, cracking to the leather, and rubbing to edges and corners, but retains its original character and early binding. Interior pages are complete with age toning, occasional foxing, and expected signs of use consistent with its age.
A wonderful piece of literary and medical history, ideal for collectors of women writers, early 19th-century literature, or antique bindings.
